PVT (parent vision trip) was a week I looked forward to. I did not have family attending but I was happy to be able to see my squad mates and ready for something new. As I prepared for it God told me to “get ready”. Ok, I thought, I’ll have to be ready for anything!
Within 30 minutes of arriving I was approached by a squad mate asking if I’d like to be a personal assistant to the head pastor of the church where PVT was being held. I was immediately assigned to taking notes for interviews happening right then! So this is what God meant by “get ready”, it’s going to be a busy week.
I worked every day during PVT for about 10-13 hours a day. Breaking for dinner, of course. And I THRIVED! I loved the job, the emails, the meetings, organizing, note taking, social media managing, trip planning, and any surprise each day would bring! My energy and enthusiasm soared!
I remember having a conversation with Raul (head pastor) about the position of PA. It was of course a job and needed a full time employee. (It might still if you’re interested.) This experience helped me to see that being a missionary wasn’t limited to preaching, evangelism or children’s ministry. THIS could be a full time ministry assignment. It was a new concept to bring my passions and ministry together. There are no limitations to the amazing things God has designed and prepared us for!
When the week concluded I was grateful for a rest day but also so very grateful for the ability to work hard, contribute to the kingdom, and start each day with prayer at the office. I’m also grateful to the amazing team I was able to work with and for all the wisdom I was able to glean through conversations with Raul. It was one of my favorite weeks on the race!
This experience has me thinking of the many opportunities back home to bring skill and ministry together. It helped me to see how God designed each of us differently and how these differences are what make up the body. They’re essential and a vital part of bringing the big picture into focus. Living from a place of joy and authenticity frees others to do the same.
“Just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others. We all have different gifts, according to the grace given us.” Romans 12:4-6
