I woke up yesterday feeling grateful for a new sunny day and a cool breeze drifting in through the window and gently call me to itself. I gathered my journal and Bible and headed upstairs to make tea and do devotions. Feeling tired and wanting to blog and catch up wth family and friends I headed into our morning session with expectations and plans to be productive that day.
Our session was about the Kingdom of God and bringing Kingdom to earth and how we do that. ATL stands for Ask The Lord. We had to ask Him to guide our steps and where to go and what to do. In my group of three we started out in prayer. I was hearing “Blue” and “Just go” I also had a feeling about the park but didn’t pay much attention to it because it wasn’t nearly as strong or clear as the other two things. Another person in our group got “blue eyes” and a couple other details so we headed out. Looks like my personal internet time will have to wait.
We started walking and praying for God to reveal what to do and who to talk to. I got the vision of a man sitting on a curb and a squad mate had purple and a word with p and q in it. While walking, we passed a peluquería that was purple with a purple moto outside. We entered and talked to the women for a little. We left knowing that wasn’t our spot but grateful to have been able to find them. We then walked further down the street and saw a man sitting on a curb. We prayed with him then kept walking.
Not feeling as though our ministry was done we walked back towards the hostel and my feeling to go into the park grew stronger. In the park the first person we saw with blue eyes was a girl with long blond hair wearing all blue. When you know, you know. She was definitely who we were supposed to talk to. We stopped to talk and started out in broken Spanish. Soon we realized she could speak English and switched to that. Her name is Jessica and she is from Germany working through WYWAM at an orphanage in Medellín. She is a christian and invited us to visit the orphanage! We passed a few other racers and told them what happened. Sarah T., a squadmate with a heart for orphans joined us. We all hopped in a taxi and headed to the center.
Upon arriving she had to see if we could visit. We were able to say hi to a couple kids but couldn’t go in. They said maybe tomorrow afternoon. We stayed in that part of town and got lunch with her and hung out for a little while. It was awesome to hear her story and a little bit more about her family and her time here in Colombia. It was evident how much she loved these children. She told us a few of their heartbreaking stories. It was incredible to think that sharing an amazing meal with a beautiful sister in Christ was all orchestrated by God. Way better than sitting online in the hostel all morning.
God led us to Jessica and showed himself faithful when we called out to him. We invited her to our rooftop worship at the hostel to which she excitedly accepted. We departed that afternoon feeling hopeful to return today if our schedule allows. In any case, she came and joined us in worship and it was a blessing to have her!
We will be having an entire month of ATL (Ask The Lord) ministry coming up and seeing God work yesterday makes me really excited to see what else he will be doing in our lives, and those we encounter. We have been learning more about listening prayer and hearing from God. If you haven’t already incorporated listening prayer into your relationship with Christ I highly encourage you to start! He has so many things to say and ways to bless us and take our day from ordinary to exponentially beyond our expectations.
