This is the fifth time this week that I try to write a blog. I haven't written any updates due to the fact that the last two weeks of my life have been extremely chaotic! I try to sit down and focus but it seems that everything inside of me is still being processed and I can't find words to explain the latest events in my life- or maybe it's just all the Xanax in my system! Speaking of Xanax, I guess we shall start there.
Some of you may know that I was sick in Africa, for about a month before I left the continent, I somehow got a bacteria in my stomach, which doesn't really surprise me, I mean, I lived without running water, cooked food outside on the floor, no electricity, no regular showers. So doesn't surprise me that I would get some kinda, sick!
And so it was, I went to see a doctor in Uganda, Africa but that didn't seem to help what I was feeling, so I waited it out. I was to see a doctor as soon as I got to Asia. I left Uganda on a sunday and arrived in Bangkok, Thailand about two days later. I walked out of the airport and into what seemed to be a huge steam room, within minutes I was drenched in sweat. Thailand heat, mixed with bacteria, stomach ache sent me running to a doctor. I get to the doctors office, his first reaction was; I would like to admit you, coming from Africa with any kind of illness should be well taken care of. It took the doctor an hour, literally, to convince me to stay. At this point I though this five star hospital and European doctors aren't in it for my money, so I stayed. I was there four days and on the the fourth day after a c t scan, four I.V.s and fainting I was released with a bag full of meds and diagnosed with; diverticulosis, chronic gastroenteritis, ulcers and bacteria in my stomach and intestines. Thank. you. Africa!
So then, I left Bangkok on a 15 hour bus ride heading to Phuket, Thailand. The morning I arrived, still feeling a little woozy but with lots of pain meds in my system I decide to join the rest of my team. We rode elephants around the jungle! Huge beautiful spotted Asian elephants! How could I pass that up! With joy and excitement in my system overruling the drowsiness and muscle relaxers in my body, I go home to finally rest. Then, I fainted in the shower. Falling on a wet tile floor and waking up to a splitting head ache and a bruised face is not what I had in mind for rest! Any who I unfortunately stayed back from ministry the first three days to recuperate. Slowly but surly I was beginning to feel better, after lots of prayer and strength from Jesus I was able to go out and have fun at Songkron!
Friday April 13 was Songkron, Thai new year. No ordinary new year, everyone all over Thailand goes out into the streets and splashes water and baby powder on each other. Young and old, everyone is in this big water fight, super soakers and all! We spent our Friday in the back of a truck having water wars with everyone in the streets- great job Thailand for coming up with the best holiday ever!
This month I am living at SHE ministries here in Phuket, Thailand. Our ministry for the month is going down to Patong town- the red light district, and ministering in the bars and streets full of tourists, prostitutes, sex trade, exploitation, slavery. We basically build relationships with "bar girls" in hopes to shed some Jesus and pray they make a choice to leave the sex trade.
So there you have it, UPDATES from the last two weeks of my life. Travel, sickness, elephants, water wars, happy new year 2056 and ministry. Everything could come against me but greater is he that lives in me than he who is in the worlds! Poor Satan when will you learn, this girl ain't givin up!
Praise be to Jesus, He lives!
