Here I am, rolling through my 10th month on my World Race. Did I say rolling? I meant flying….and after 9 full months on this crazy, amazing adventure I think I can say 90% of the World Race comes down to one thing: ATTITUDE.
What kind of attitude are you going to choose on a daily basis?
If you are planning on doing the World Race let me give you a little heads up, not every day on this journey is glorious…not every moment facebook worthy. There are many moments you have to CHOOSE joy, you have to embrace what God is doing in your life with an attitude of wanting to be molded and sharpened to look more Christ like.
The time your team is changing and you are freaking out?
The time you are sleeping in your tent and eating beans and rice again in Africa?
The time you are working with a ministry you don’t feel ‘called to’?
The time your teammate gives you feedback that is true but hurts to hear?
What do you do in these moments, in these situations? What is your mindset? There are a so many times we have to make the conscious decision to embrace the difficulties and challenges, not run from them.
It’s easy to shut down, perhaps throw a pity party, coast through a month because you’re tired of the ministry, give up on a friendship with a teammate or always play the victim.
Your attitude will reflect your World Race experience. It will affect the people you meet, your squad and your ministry hosts. Whether positive or negative it’s going to be contagious.
When my World Race ends in less than two months I’ll be flying home and although my daily situations might not be as extreme, my attitude is just as important. The World Race is a year of extremes but the lessons learned can be applied to every day the rest of our lives.
Most happiness is chosen. Most successful days are determined in our minds right after we wake up. Most of the best moments we have are ones where we embrace situations that scare us, intimidate us or bring uncertainty…with an attitude that doesn’t waver.
Whether we are doing the World Race or just doing life, most of it boils down to that one simple word…Attitude.
Which attitude are you choosing today?
