Now that we have crossed into July I am 6 months from beginning my World Race. While some days that feels like a long time, I have a feeling I will have my bags packed and be on that airplane in no time.
The truth is it’s hard for me to really picture the Race right now. Don’t get me wrong…I am BEYOND excited for this journey, but there are a lot of things that will happen before I take that flight to South Africa in January.
I still have:
- 2 more months of living in South Korea.
- 4 weeks of teaching left in my school semester.
- A trip to Japan and the Philippines.
- 4 months of living back in America.
- A lot of fun with friends and family to be had.
- Weddings to attend.
- College football games to watch.
- Some part-time work in November and December.
In a lot of stages of life we are constantly looking to the future and forget to live in the moment. In high school many kids talk about how ready they are to graduate and move into the adult world. By the end of college a lot of students look forward to a paycheck coming their way and are tired of studying. Even as adults we tend to look forward to the future on a consistent basis.
With 6 months until my journey begins I am slowly beginning to prepare my heart and mind for the challenging 11 months ahead of me. I am beginning to raise as much support and awareness of my trip that I can. I am researching some of the different materials I will need.
BUT…
Perhaps more importantly than all the preparation…I am making a conscious effort to LIVE IN THE MOMENT. There is still work to be done in my daily life in Korea…children to love on…people to show Christ’s love to. There is time to spend in America with my loved ones before my Race begins.
The World Race will be an incredible chapter of my life, but there is still a lot of living to do before it’s time has come.
