Interactive Sunday

So God gave me this new idea for my blog…its called Interactive SundayI was praying the other day and I was reminded of my blog, An Inspiring Surprise and the conversation I had with Robert Tercek (he’s the Web 2.0 guru for Oprah).  Digital media is all moving towards interaction between the sender and the receivers. All of a sudden it hit me, this blog can be more powerful if I’m not just talking and you listening, but instead we can engage together to become more like Christ and change the world at the same time.  So every Sunday…well hopefully every Sunday…I will post an interactive blog where I want you to respond to me!  Not only will I be challenged by your responses, but it will also challenge you to push deeper in your walk with the Lord.

So without further ado, this weeks question for Interactive Sunday is…
What are you doing right now to become more like Jesus?

I was spending some time with the Lord the other day, and He asked me the same question.  I spend a lot time talking about how I want to be more like Jesus, but I don’t think I’ve honestly ever consciously asked God what I could be doing to become more like Jesus.  So that is what I did.  I prayed and asked God what did He want me to focus on this week to become more like Jesus.

After reading the Bible and praying about other things, God came back with the answer for me.  He showed me how much I focus on getting tasks done.  I was an economics major in college and we are all about maximizing utility (utility is just econ lingo for whatever you want most, happiness, enjoyment, etc.)  In my life I regard taking care of the job entrusted to me very highly.  The most important job to me right now is whatever God is having me do at that time.  This sounds like all great stuff, but the truth is that I focus on the task until its done and rarely will allow anything to derail my timetable…and that includes people.  When I look at Jesus, He was constantly getting “distracted” by people coming to Him in need.  And He always took time for those people.  He loved people and wouldn’t let His “work” stop Him from loving people.  So right now God has called me to become more like Jesus by putting people before my “tasks.”  If someone needs me I will let myself be distracted,  people are more important.  If someone has a birthday, or something important coming up, I will put “ministry” on hold and love those people well.  This is something I have never been very good at.  I typically just live in the moment and don’t let things distract me.  But I want to be more like Jesus and put people first.  I want to love people like Jesus loved them, serve them like Jesus served them.  So there you have it, that is how God has called me to become more like Jesus.  Now I want to know…what about you? What is God calling you to do to become more like Jesus?

You can post on the blog, or if you prefer you can just email me!
