Part one was about two kids that really impacted my heart, this one is about a mother that really stole my heart.  Mabel will forever live in my heart.

Mabel- I met this mother on a trip that I almost didn’t go on. Our team was taking the afternoon off the day before Thanksgiving. There was a miscommunication somewhere and only 8 people could get into Tony’s car due to the transmission. God was gracious and let us go… and I’m so glad we did. We made a trip to Los Pinios, the slums of Tegucigalpa to visit a woman who was very sick. She has three kids and was very sick. She had been bed ridden for two weeks and anything she ate would come right back up, needless to say, she was very weak. I was blessed to be one of three people who got to go to her house to pray for her. The moment I laid eyes on her, I fell in love and knew that she would be one of my ones. We were talking and praying for a good half an hour before we left. I wasn’t sure if I would ever see her again.

On Friday, Tony took her to the hospital and we didn’t get word until Saturday morning. We were all supposed to go to the mall for a relaxing day, to catchup on the Internet, talk to family, post some blogs… but God turned our day around. Tony told us how the doctors said that Mabel could have stomach cancer… That is a big deal, not only in cost, but she has three kids that she takes care of at home alone… what would happen if… Well, there were a lot of ‘what if’s’ that were going through every ones heads. So, after our squad prayed about it, we decided to spend our day off in front of the hospital, hanging out with no Internet, singing songs, praying, reading scripture, and asking the Lord for healing. So we went… and how good it was. We weren’t able to go inside because it is a very strict, private hospital, so we simply sat out front across the street. There were a few racers that got to go inside and find out what was going on and to our amazement, there was no stomach cancer, just a bug! God had turned stomach cancer into something that could be healed with a few drugs! How good is God!?! Mabel was released that day and we got to take her back to the property and I was blessed to spend a little more time with her. But it has been such a blessing that God let her be one of my “Ones”. She is still weak, but she is back at home with her family.

I’m amazed at how people you meet only a few times and have known for less than a few weeks can really have that kind of impact on our lives.  But what a blessing it is.
