“What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me –
practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”
– Philippians 4:9
Opportunities to share the Gospel came once again as we spent the month of February in Cambodia. As we met with the pastor we’d be working with, we knew we’d have a lot on our plates. Our task for the month was to teach Bible lessons, English lessons, and an evening devotional as part of a supplemental education program provided by a local church. We worked with all age groups, from three year-olds to seventeen year-olds. Each day we had to run the show, with no lesson plans, no training, and little preparation. I even found out that I had to preach a sermon one Sunday! So it was a stretch of our confidence and our comfort zones for sure.
But God was gracious and gave us an attentive audience that was eager to learn and had a hunger for the Word of God. Every day we arrived, we were greeted by affectionate embraces, warm smiles, and joyful hearts. The youngest ones in particular have stolen a piece of me forever. Most of these kids have grown up in a very poor, Buddhist environment with little education and rare exposure to the Scriptures. As such, this is where we were able to step in and use our knowledge and skills to pass on all that we’ve been privileged to learn over the years.
So, as our informal lessons began to take shape, I noticed a sense of confidence that I never had before. And I am certain it was from the Lord. With very little time to prepare, I often had to speak off the cuff, trusting that I’d have the words to say when the time came. Along with this, I discovered how important it is to simply share what it is that’s on my heart; to share the same things that I have learned over the years and to share them in the same way I had heard them. We’ve been blessed to be able to hear the Word of God so often, so now it’s our responsibility to pass these truths on to others. And it’s a lot easier than I thought it would be. With the Holy Spirit on our side, we’ve been given the power and authority from heaven to speak boldly and confidently. With this in mind, we can go out there and do big things in Jesus’ name! All it takes is trusting the Father and willingness to step outside our comfort zones.
I’ve still got a long ways to go when it comes to this sort of thing. But I know that in the end, it will certainly be worth it. This journey is stretching me in new ways every day, so please pray that I will use all that I’m learning to build the Kingdom of God wherever I am.
Lastly, I have some great news. With the total cash now in my account, along with the amounts pledged by this coming August, I am fully supported! Although, I am still in need of about $1,500 in personal funds to help pay for other expenditures such as international insurance coverage and passport renewal. Concerning any contributions towards these expenses, checks can be made out directly to my name and can be sent to the address listed above. If you are a monthly donor, please continue to make checks payable to Adventures In Missions, mail payments to the following address, and be sure to include my name in the memo:
