One thing about the route that I’m on, the Fusion route, from the other World Race routes is we don’t have any set ministry hosts. We enter a country and listen for God to guide us to the places He wants us. We won’t ever know what kinds of places we’ll be in our what kind of ministry He’ll have us doing, and shoot dang if that isn’t exciting I don’t know what is!
We’re almost done with our month in Uganda and we’ve finished training and our in our first week out separated into our smaller teams to test what we’ve learned. This time around we’ll only be out for a week and then we’ll head back to reunite with the entire squad for a debrief. This short week has blown my mind with God’s goodness and provision. From day one God has shown off with how much He has provided and cared for this group of six females. Day one He had my mind reeling with His answers to our prayers and sometimes even providing solutions for problems we didn’t know we had yet. It started immediately at the beginning of the day when my team was praying about where we should go and how we should get there. Four us six felt we were called to stay in Kampala and one teammate specifically heard hospital ministry as a guide for what we’d end up doing. As we began preparing to call a taxi, one teammate who happens to be French informs us that she has connected with a neighbor at the hostel we were staying at who was also French and had plenty of space for our entire team and gear for a free lift to wherever in Kampala.
Not only did this lift save the team money, but they also made sure we made it safely to our next destination without having to lug our heavy gear in a crazy busy city we weren’t familiar with. Our new hostel is very nice, originally out of our budget but somehow (*cough* God), the management lowered the cost for us to meet our budget perfectly.
My favors part of all of this came shortly after getting settled in the hostel. Myself and two of my teammates went to the local shop for supplies and after leaving the shop, we stopped into a pizza shop, just to see prices. As my mates were looking I shook hands with a man sitting at the bar. He introduced himself as Steven and explained he had spent some time in America studying medicine and we in town to observe at a local clinic. To make a long, crazy story short, a random meeting in a pizza shop led to meeting a doctor and getting connected with the ministry we felt called to serve in.
Gods favor has continued to shine through this week. As we’ve served at the clinic we’ve met and spoken with amazing people. Most of this ministry just involves talking and learning from the staff. Honestly, they’ve ministered to us than us to them. They have encouraged us in our faith and have taught us multiple different things, like some great Ugandian recipes 🙂
Its only been a short week, but goodbyes are hard!! As much as I wish I had a full month to build relationships with these people I’m excited for a full month I’m Rwanda. Please continue praying for not only my team but the entire squad as we prepare to continue serving and learning what God has for us.
