On the race, what entertains you may drastically change. After spending 3 months in Africa, my team and I have become very well versed in entertaining ourselves and each other. Mostly, because we have had no wifi, no TV, very small selection of movies and not many places to go. This lends itself to some HILARIOUS entertainment.

But then… We got to Malaysia, where we have pretty good wifi, I’ve managed to get ahold of some movies and there are way more things to adventure and check out. Still, even with all that… we end up talking about Harry Potter. Now my team leader, Felicia has read all the books and I managed to get ahold of most of the movies, so as we were watching one… naturally, Pottermore and the whole “what house are you in?” conversation got started.

Now on my team, you have Felicia, who is totally into it. She’s read all the book, seen all the movies and it was her idea to watch this movie together. Loves Harry Potter! Then you have Anna, who knows a little, but doesn’t care much or show a whole lot of interest in the series. Me … well, that’s about where I’m at as well. Finally, we have Christa, who doesn’t care or care to know much about Harry Potter at all (but we made her take it too!).

But let me just tell you I AM A HUFFLEPUFF. But… I haven’t always been this way. The race, and what God is doing in my through the race is what makes me a Hufflepuff.

What does the Hufflepuff house value you ask?

  • Trustworthiness

  • Loyalty

  • Hard Work

  • Dedication

  • Patience

  • Kindness

  • Unafraid of toil

  • Tolerance

While many of these things are things I have always valued, they aren’t things I have always operated in and certainly not operated in for Jesus.

Even 2 years ago I NEVER in a million years would have called myself a Hufflepuff! But now…

I know God has called me to be trustworthy:

In the same way, the women are to be worthy of respect, not malicious talkers but temperate and trustworthy in everything. — 1 Timothy 3:11

I know God recognized my works, but more importantly my love for him:

God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them. We want each of you to show this same diligence to the very end, so that what you hope for may be fully realized. — Hebrews 6:10- 11

I know that because of Jesus, I have the fruits of the Spirit:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. — Galatians 5:22- 23

These are now things that, while they may have been valued in my life before, have become daily prayers, daily changes and things I walk in with the Lord DAILY. Also, they are the things he’s changed in me to make me a Hufflepuff. Incredibly random, I’m aware but shout out to all the HUFFLEPUFFs out there!
