I have been in the Philippines for the past month now with the entire June squad. Our contact offered us several ministry options upon arriving in Manila and we stayed very busy scattered among serving the people and our ministry contacts. Our ministry this month included: construction work and painting, home visits and feeding projects for the homeless and squatter areas, teaching and tutoring underprivileged kids, prison and prostitute ministry, assisting at dental and doctor’s clinics, working at the children’s home and babies center, and community outreach projects just to list a few.

The Filipino people are so friendly and open to hearing the Gospel. The streets where we stay are filled with children dancing and playing along the street. We are greeted daily with friendly hellos, bright smiles, and waving hands. It’s amazing the joy these people have yet they have so little, but this seems to be a common thread throughout the world. The more you have, the more burdens you carry; the less you have, the more joy and freedom you walk in. I believe there is truly a lot we could learn from the poor.

The first week I was here I chose to get involved in several different options to see where the Lord would lead me to invest my time and heart this month. I really felt His leading to invest in the children at the home and also teaching at the community center with the children. I’ve also enjoyed working at a doctor’s clinic, building relationships with the community, laying hands on the sick, and helping out on other community projects.
