“So you’re a missionary, right?  So what is your ministry?”

Well this week I spent lots of time with 3 babies under the age of 8 months and a few sleepless hours taking care of them overnight.  Ran after 2 year olds who are learning their way around.  Cooking for 20 Filipino women, cleaning up lunch, washing the covers of electric fans, cleaning out all the cabinets and doing a scrub down of the kitchen floor.

This month my lesson that I am learning is “domesticity”.  I am sure that is not what the Lord’s intention and lesson is that He is teaching me and I am sure it is something much more Christlike for example “serving”.  This month the Lord over and over again is putting in my path opportunities to serve in roles that mirror a normal home life.  Mind you I haven’t had a normal “home” since June so this is new to me.  But serving in a ministry where I stay up all night with infants and scrub floors is not the most glamorous and it doesn’t always lend itself to the most exciting stories.  Today, I was scrubbing fans blades and I didn’t want to be doing it, honestly it wasn’t my cup of tea.  The Lord reminded me – I have called you here so serve Me with a cheerful heart.  But the Lord is teaching me service in ways and in places that are not seen.  It is hard being away from the action and not really knowing what everyone else is up to.  My stories aren’t exciting – I haven’t seen someone receive salvation (mainly b/c they can barely hold their heads up or already know Him) or any miracles performed.  But, one thing I am learning is whatever I am doing – do it for the glory of God.  So whether I am rocking the babies at 3 am or on the floor next to my Filipino sister doing exactly what she is doing may it be to the glory of our Mighty God!

Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men – Colossians 3:23

Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.  Matthew 5:16
