Part of our ministry in China was to befriend the students that we were helping with their oral English. I had met a girl named “Eve” and we were building a friendship and I really wanted to get her off campus so I could maybe get an opportunity to share the gospel.
Well in my own intelligence I thought that I could make a date with her and she could help me get a haircut. I was in desperate need of a trim and I thought it would be good to take her to lunch and then she could help translate with the stylist for my hair cut. As most girls know great bonding takes place over beauty treatments. What a great way I thought to bring up the fact that I was a Christian and to tell her about my great Savior.

So we went to lunch and then she took me to a salon and she translated that I just wanted a trim to the stylist. At the beginning it was amazing. You lay out on a table and they wash your head and massage your head and shoulders and back. So I was loving it. How can anything bad happen that begins with a massage, right? Well, it can…
So I go and sit down and I am getting my haircut and he seems to be cutting a lot of hair off and I think it will be ok… Well by the end I realize that I am in trouble. But being an optimist I keep reassuring myself if isn’t that bad, it just can’t be. So they dried my hair and it was straight and all of my friends thought that I looked like a Chinese girl.
The next day was when the realization hit. I have a mullet! Short in the front and long in the back.

Please take note of the tail!
So after realizing I couldn’t wear a ponytail for the next few months I was convinced that I had to cut my hair off and make it all one length. So Elizabeth Uhles our resident hair stylist cut off my “tail” as I like to call it and after many tears I have normal hair again. So this is a warning to all of you – Don’t get your haircut in China!

This is me now – much better without the mullet!
In the end my friend did not seem to care about Jesus and salvation but I pray that a seed was planted and she will come to know Him in time.
