Chasing the Water Buffalos
An anecdote retold by Courtney Pearsall and Candice Hill
This is a true account of an incident that occurred on
Tuesday, the 3rd day of July 2007.
It was mid afternoon on a sunny day and the animals were grazing in the
field.
A very loud grunt was coming from
a large beast.
It stood alone at the
fence that corners our gated entrance.
Candice says to me as I walked by her tent “Courtney is that a water
buffalo?”
“Why I do believe it is!” said
Courtney.
I walked into the office and
told everyone that there was a water buffalo outside.
(Per Candice) While I was tending to my business I heard a
loud thump and I looked out my tent and the waterbuffalo had jumped the fence
and was casually making its entrance into our gate.
Conversation that followed went like this…
“Uh oh… oh no…uh oh…uh ho… is anyone awake?
Anyone?
JAMES THERE IS A WATER BUFFALO COMING IN OUR FENCE!!!!!!!”
As James was making his way out of the tent
Courtney reappears from the office.
“Courtney!!
THE WATER
BUFFALO IS COMING IN THE FENCE!!!”
Per Courtney – out of instinct and fear I ran towards the
water buffalo screaming “AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH” With hands flailing wildly.
And the water buffalo ran away.
A bunch of World Racers appeared out of the
office and their tents to see the water buffalo.
While the water buffalo was not a buffalo but
in fact a bull.
They entered back into
their respective spaces disappointed.
I proudly strolled back to my tent proclaiming with my arms
raised high “WOAHHHHHHH TOP TEN!
TOP
TEN!”
As I passed Candice I said to her
“They’re mad at me because I lied to them!”
Candice’s question “What on earth is top ten” Courtney said “Top ten
funniest moments in
Swaziland,
of course!”
