Greetings from the land of Swazi! As you read in my last blog we are safe and well in Swaziland. We arrived into South Africa on Friday AM. Since our team was split into 2 groups (13 of us traveled together from Atlanta to London to South Africa). All of our plane rides were great and God protected each of our individual groups.
My group stayed overnight in South Africa at a place called Alabanza. It is a retreat center for missionaries who can come and rest for a period. It was a great place where we were able to sleep and shower after a lot of traveling. Casey who is one of the guys on our team and he timed the trip from Atlanta to Swaziland and it 96 hours of traveling! WOW!!
Our days right now are spent in training and preparation. We have had seminars on finances, food preparation, leadership, children’s ministry, team building, drama’s, etc… We do not have a definite date for departure from where we are staying and we are not quite sure where we will be going next. We are praying and deciding between ministries in South Africa and/or Swaziland. Please join our team in prayer as we move forward to a ministry opportunity.
Life in Africa is definitely different! We were walking the 2 miles to town today and this man with a truck drove by and slowed down and we hitched a ride in the back of his truck bed into town. Don’t worry there were 10 of us and that included some men. The women were hollering to him on the streets “Are you importing those white people? Things move slower and that can be frustrating but the Lord is teaching me through it to trust Him and Him alone.
Some things I have learned so far on the trip so far:
1. Cold showers are bearable and get the job done!
2. Clothes aren’t truly dirty until 4-5 times of wear
3. If they say 2pm for a pick up add 2 hours
Thank each and everyone of you for your prayers. I will let you know more soon when we have a more definite schedule with ministry.
Blessings, CLP
