I had no idea what Ukraine would be like. I didn’t even give it much thought actually, which I probably should have. When we arrived the first night we stayed in the city. But the next day, sky was the limit as to where we would be staying and what the accommodations would be like. I was ready for anything! To my shock, I prepared for the worst and got the best! Thursday, 17th, we arrived to our destination: “Jeremiah’s Hope which is at the edge of Kiev, Ukraine. We jumped out and landed on white sand. I had to take a second look. “We are not at the beach, I know that for a fact! So what’s up with this beautiful sand? I questioned. As it turns out the camp that I will be serving at is built on a riverbed. A very LOOOONG riverbed.
Our contacts, Andrew and Jenny are amazing. They have a 2 year old Daughter named Abby and a 10 month year old little girl named Sophie. Andrew and Jenny are so much fun and have a huge passion for the kids at this camp. Basically the first two weeks we are having a camp for missionary kids. When we arrived on Thursday the first set of camp kids only had 3 days left. They packed up and went home this morning. Starting Monday and group of younger kids will be coming and my team and I get to be like camp counselors. We will sleep with them and are in charge of waking them up, putting them to bed and taking care of nighttime activities. There will be another group of missionaries here that will take care of morning activities for them. The third group of kids will be the neighborhood Ukrainian kids. They don’t speak any English and we don’t speak any Russian. This should be INTERESTING!
We do have a Ukrainian boy that is living here right now. His name is Artuum. His mother is 15 and pregnant again and wasn’t taking good care of him. They found him on the streets and decided to take him in for a while. After camp is over he will probably live at a foster home. But, until now he is enjoying being with all the kids here. He is quite a handful though!
Today, we have spent our day saying bye to campers and cleaning the entire camp and doing about 30 loads of laundry. We are hang drying everything which is fun because as I am outside I get to see the neighbors walk buy and can her them speaking in Russian as they chase chickens! Woo hoo! I wish I could understand what they were saying!
That is all for now! Love you guys!
*Sory I dont have pictures up yet, I can’t figure out how to do it*
