About two months ago, I volunteered at Feed My Starving
Children with the young adults group from Excelsior Covenant Church. It was an
amazing experience and I wanted to go there more often. It felt great to know
that I was making an impact in the nations I’ve served in overseas. I still
long to scoop up children and show them God’s love myself, but in the season
I’m in right now of being State side, I’m thankful to have the opportunity to
make a tangible difference.

One of the transitions I’ve had to make living here is in
the cost of living. While living in Kenya it wasn’t difficult to eat all three
meals for about a dollar or maybe $1.50. Eating more than my fill at Mama
Esther’s for lunch cost about 40 cents. Here in Minnesota, eating out can
easily cost close to $10 for just one meal. That being said, I felt the need to
subsidize my missionary income while living in the US with a part-time job.

I feel blessed, because God opened the door for me to get an
additional job doing something I find meaningful. I am now (in addition to
fundraising for the Kenya Initiative) working part-time at Feed My Starving
Children as a Team Leader. I get to share with volunteers about the children
that are helped through their feeding programs and give them instructions on
how to pack food to send all around the world. Last Wednesday was my first day
leading the opening and closing talks and I had friends from Excelsior Covenant
Church as volunteers!

If you’ve never been to Feed My Starving Children before, I
suggest you check it out. The first time I volunteered, our group packed enough
food for 17 children in Haiti to eat for a year! It felt good to make that much
of an impact in less than 2 hours of my time.
