This past weekend My sister Kelly and I made our way down to Gainesville, Georgia where I will be living for the next 6 months doing an apprenticeship with Adventures in Missions before heading to Kenya, Africa. Here is a brief look at the road trip down:

Friday April 1st

My sister Kelly and I packed the last of our stuff in the car.

I shut down my laptop… which killed my hard drive.

Spent an hour trying to fix the laptop before deciding to leave without it.

Then we HIT THE ROAD!!!

We drove about 5 and a half hours from Excelsior, Minnesota to Madison, Wisconsin where we stopped to see our neighbor/friend/(middle sister), Kara. Saw the rats she works with, a mini tour of campus and ate some ice cream before hitting the road again.

Drove another 3 hours to Leisa’s house near Chicago, Illinois. We met her family and enjoyed good conversation over Chicago pizza.

Saturday April 2nd

We left Leisa’s house and headed toward Kentucky.

Somewhere along this 7 hour drive we stopped to take a picture for dad… 300,000 miles!

That evening we arrived at Cassondra’s house and stopped at the store before going out to dinner at this great Mexican restaurant.

As our meal was about to end the waiters and waitress came from the kitchen with a huge sombrero and a bowl of fried ice cream. They put the sombrero on my head and sang happy birthday to me as the woman spooned ice cream purposely missing my mouth. As the song came to an end, one of the waiters shoved the bowl in my face. I had ice cream from my chin to my eyes…

Cassondra, her sister Christian, Christian’s friend, Kelly and I ate what was left of the fried ice cream.

After dinner we went back to Cassondra’s place and watched a movie before a late night of talking and then some sleep.

Sunday April 3rd

Kelly and I ate some toast, said our goodbyes and headed toward Georgia!

While driving through Tennessee, our GPS contradicted our printed directions. We went by the GPS and ended up on a wondering highway through the woods. The speed limit was 50 mph, but the curves did not allow for more than 30 mph. It was defiantly the “scenic route.

Once we crossed over into Georgia we stopped to buy a map to make sure we were taking major highways for the rest of the trip.

After a total of about 22 hours on the road (over 3 days) we arrived in Gainesville, Georgia!

It took my new roommates, Kelly and I about 2 minutes to unload the car and be “moved in.

We ate dinner at the “Kenya girl’s apartment and enjoyed chatting a bit before heading back to my new place and getting some sleep before my first day on the job!
