Sometimes, you find yourself in unique situations… On the World Race, unique situations are not a daily occurrence. They happen every moment. As our team says daily, "This is my life." So try some of these activities in your week to experience what life is like for team Theo this month in the Ukraine.
- Go to a party store and purchase crepe paper. Choose any color, but it should be preferably grey. (Pink or green would also be acceptable.) This will be your toilet paper. Welcome to the World Race.
- Play charades for one whole day with complete strangers.
- Eat soup every day for lunch for a whole week. Even if it's over 90 degrees outside.
- At least twice a day, turn all the power off in your house. Try to accommodate this at the most inconvenient times. If your bathroom has no natural light, use a head lamp. (Super challenge: shower with the lights off and use only a head lamp looped on the shower rod.)
- When in public areas try your best not to go to use the public bathrooms. Hold it to the brink of maximum capacity knowing the only other option is a squatty potty that you have to pay 50 cents to use.
- If you live on a farm, let the animals loose and pray to God that they come back. Let them eat anything within reach.
- Jam as many people and children as possible into a van. (Our highest record is 18 and two wheelchairs.) Then drive as fast as humanly possible, ignoring any speed limits (because there are none) on a gravel road. Oh, and no seatbelts (because there are none).
- Learn how to use "acid" (at this point still not sure what it was) to clean paint and plaster off of tiles only using motions and sound effects, no words.
- If at any point you get a sudden rash-like flare up, go to the hospital and ask for the "Cute American Shot Discount" and see if you can procure free shots. Then, make certain that the shot is given in both butt cheeks instead of the arm. (True story. I didn't even have to ask for the discount, they just knew.)
Welcome to the World Race. Enjoy.
