it was the spring of 2009
A day that I will never forget
It was 3 am
My roommate and I had been studying all night for an exam
We needed a few things at the store so we decided to go to the truck stop down the road
There she was…. just sitting in the breeze way.
Curled up with her bags, looking scared to death
A genuine look of fear
I'd never seen fear like that before
My heart broke in a million pieces
We went inside and got what we needed
We decided to see if she was hungry or needed help of any kind
We crouched down to her level to talk to her. Asking her if she needed any help
It was clearly not a safe place to be
She had white powder all over her face, and dark circles around her eyes (I can't forget)
I was speechless, so I just prayed as Carrie spoke to her
She refused everything that we offered to her
Not knowing what to do we left
Drove back to the house in silence
We pull into the drive and look at each other, tears in both of our eyes
"Let's go back" we say at the same time. Both of us feeling God telling us to go back
We start praying outloud together then in silence as we pull up
With the Spirit speaking through us we got her to get into the car with us
We headed for the greyhound station downtown Dallas
We started talking to her and asking questions, clearly making her uncomfortable
We redirected the conversation to Jesus, clearly making her more uncomfortable
We arrive to the bus station. Helped her carry her bags inside and purchased her ticket
She broke down into a million tears.
I don't think she believed us when we told her that we would buy her ticket
We prayed over her before we left and gave her our phone numbers in case she needed anything on her way home
We walked back to the car together, leaving her behind
We drove home in silence as tears rolled down our cheeks
We were never the same after that and we will never forget that night
My heart broke that night for the first time
A passion and a fire was set inside of me that night
