How I literally lost a day
Oh travel days….. Do I have some feedback for you or what?! Â You’re exhausting, painful, annoying, needed, stressful, fun, and quite honestly we hate you yet grateful at the same time. You get us from country to country & continent to continent, we need you. You just need to learn to be a bit more gentle to us.
Jan 4th – 4am Leon, Nicaragua. Walking with our packs 1/2 mile (give or take) to a boat. Take the boat across the waters to our bus where we ride for 3 hours, 3 to a seat (Kayla, Jake and I) to the capital city, Managua. Where we take a 5 hour plane ride to Atlanta. You’d like that part would be easy, right? Well not when a pimp (or something) broke so we had to sit on the plane for 4 hours until they fixed it.
Eleven o’clock Jan 4th – finally arrive to Atlanta, GA American soil! Someone donated hotel rooms for our whole squad because we were to have a 12 hour layover. HUGE BLESSING!! THANK YOU to whoever that was!
We also had Chick-fil-A donated to us as well!!! AWESOME!!! Because of the delay we only got about 3-4 hours in the hotel so almost all of us repacked everything and didn’t sleep at all!
Jan 5th – 4am (we must like this time haha) leaving the hotel for the airport. 5 hour flight to L.A. With a 12 hour layover! We all spread out and did whatever your group wanted to do. Most of us shopped and ate!! Haha
Jan 5th – about 10 pm boarding an airplane for a 13 hour flight to Seoul, South Korea. The NICEST flight I’ve ever been on in my life NOT to mention the BIGGEST plane I’d ever been on!! Free food, newest movies, video games and music!! It was at that time that we lost a WHOLE DAY!! Because we flew over the Dateline! Which caused us to MISS JANUARY 6TH!!! IT NEVER HAPPENED FOR US!!!! Which is so cool and weird at the same time! And we won’t get that day back because we won’t fly home over the dateline.
January 7th – 6ish am landed in Korea! With yet another 12 hour layover! It was a nice FREEZING COLD of 19 Degrees that day in Korea!! Their airport is one of the top rated airports in the world…. Aka it was pretty sweet! Free wifi! Free hot showers! American food! And lots of things to keep you busy for 12 hours. Tressa and I spent most of the day together 🙂
January 7th – That evening we get on a 6 hour flight to Bangkok, Thailand!! YAY!!!!
Late that Night – landing in Bangkok!! Grab our packs and head to find our contacts. YWAM hosted us at there Bangkok location. Thank you guys!! We got into several trucks and rode to the base (my team only stayed one night but the rest stayed two nights)
January 8th – sleep in, shower and pack up to be ready to leave at 5 pm. Our team had some time to check out Bangkok! So much fun! We got to ride the Air Train which was really fun! Get back to the base and load our bags onto the truck to the bus station for yet another 12 hour ride to Chang Rai (northern Thailand) Let’s just say (and the guys agree) that was the most painful 12 hours of my life. Thai people are just a bit smaller than us and when I say just a bit…. I’m taller than a lot of men around here HAHA and my boys are all over 6’2!
January 9th – finally to Chang Rai! Where our contact the J man (we aren’t permitted to share his name for safety purposes) picks us up and we head to the office. Breakfast, Unpack (repack), Â have orientation, nap time and than checking out the night market for dinner!
January 10th – You thought the traveling was over didn’t you? Haha not so fast mister! Get up early to head for Laos!! 2 hourish bus ride to the boarder, cross the river by boat, get our visas, lunchtime and get in the truck for what we thought was 2 hours ended up being closer to 5 hours. When going up the mountain it gets a lot COLD when the sun goes down ESPECIALLY when you are wearing shorts!! We arrive to our guest house and they are booked so we had to find another one before dinner.
While in Laos we traveled to many villages in a day and NEVER stayed in one place for more than a night.
That’s traveling days in a nutshell for Somewhere Beautiful!
