I was actually serving as a group leader for CMF International’s REACH internship program….meaning I was doing my best to lead 15 college-aged interns on their endeavors in Nairobi, Kenya for two months this summer. One night a girl on our team asked if I’d accompany her to dinner. She said a friend-of-a-friend was in Nairobi and she wanted to get together with this girl but didn’t want to walk back alone. Not thinking much about it I said “sure”. The girl we met up with showed up with 3 friends, and when I asked what they were doing in Nairobi she started telling me about the World Race. I was immediately hooked. I picked their brains for 2 hours with questions about the race, how to get involved, and what exactly it’s all about…and could not sleep that night because of my excitement. I prayed about it for two weeks and then applied at a cyber cafe in downtown Nairobi.
