Honduras has exceeded my expectations. If I’m being honest, Honduras was one of the countries I was least excited about. It was simply one of those places I thought wouldn’t really stand out to me.
My expectations were completely wrecked. When we arrived in Honduras, I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful it was. There are mountains everywhere. The weather is my idea of perfect… Sunny and warm during the day then cool through the night.
My entire squad is living together this month. There are 47 of us plus 3 squad leaders. We are staying on a beautiful property in Talanga where we wake up each morning surrounded by mountains. I sleep in a tent every night and truly enjoy it. It’s nice to have a little bedroom of my own after being around 50 people all hours of the day.
My team is working with Heart of Christ ministries here in Talanga. Papi Lee and Gracie are our ministry hosts and they are wonderful people following God’s calling upon their lives. They have been in Honduras for several years fostering women and children that have come from all types of abuse. God is doing WORK in this ministry. They currently have 10 children living at their home, some of which have special needs, some abandoned, and some the outcome of rape and incest. They have a passion for this and I feel blessed to play a small role in their story.
Each day we are involved with construction, house duties or village ministry. We have a rotation of work with the other teams keeping things new and exciting. Our construction project involves building a fence in the backyard. I had the chance to work with cement and lay blocks down. I definitely enjoy this part of it and we have made great progress since starting last week. The house duties include cooking, cleaning and doing activities with all the children. The village ministry allows us to build relationships with the local community and see how we can pray for them.
The people of Honduras are beautiful. I love seeing them smile. I love the culture here. Relationships are the most important thing. I have found myself waving and shouting “buenas dias” at just about everybody. No one is too busy to notice you. No one cares what you look like or what you’re wearing. They sincerely appreciate you taking the time to say hello.
I feel at complete peace in Honduras. I am reminded each day this is exactly where I belong. Sure, I have experienced doubt and had negative thoughts cross my mind but I am starting to become more aware of God’s presence. I am able to hear His voice more and more because I’m actually taking the time to listen. I am embracing everything that God puts before me and taking advantage of each opportunity He leads me to. I don’t want to waste this year away. I want to focus on the here and now. Please pray against any spiritual attacks my team may face and for God to keep us safe and protected.
Thank you to all my family, friends and supporters. This is a life-changing journey and I am so grateful you are all a part of it.
