Hey everyone! Sorry about not being able to blog sooner, but wifi has been hard to come by here in Sarlahi, Nepal. We arrived in Nepal on July 5th, after two whole days of international flights and layovers. We stayed for two days in Kathmandu at the home of a Christian member of parliament (he was out of town) before leaving for our ministry site about six hours south.
We are working with a school in Sarlahi named Haripur Christian school, as well as the local church that is also on the same grounds. The school is a Christian school that encourages educating women, something that doesn’t always happen in these rural areas. As part of the church, we are working with an organization called New Light Nepal, which focuses on the issue of child trafficking in rural Nepal. The organization uses education and programs for both parents and young girls to teach them more about the lies used by traffickers, the importance of education for women, and give them other opportunities in communities where selling your children to traffickers has become more common. So far we’ve been able to work in the school, pray for local members of the church leadership, and be a part of services for the women in the village as well as the Saturday morning church service.
The weather here is crazy hot, and the Mosquitos are a trip, but I’ve been having a lot of fun so far! Hopefully I’ll be able to blog more throughout the month. I can’t thank you all enough for helping me get to this point and for all your prayers and thoughts!
