This blog was supposed to be a pictorial edition of “What I did this week” to highlight all the varied ministries and off-day opportunities Team Como Te Llamas has had this month.
And then I threw up this morning.
There’s nothing like a stomach virus to throw a wrench in the best laid plans.
I was hoping to make it through the Race without any sick days, given that working as a preschool teacher is great at building up one’s immune system. So far, I’d been doing good – I got stomach aches when other people got sick, and had a cold/sinus infection for most of Thailand, but otherwise I had been very blessed.
But all good things must come to an end.
It’s a bummer (besides the feeling miserable thing) because this was our last off-day before we head out on our Parent Vision Trip. First, I don’t want to be sick while my parents are here! (They’re enjoying some time at Machu Picchu before we meet up!) And second, I had planned on exploring a little more of San Miguel, the neighborhood of Lima where we’ve been living for the past 3 weeks. It has been such a lovely place to live and I hate missing out on seeing more of the churches and nearby waterfront.
Despite all this, today’s actually turned out pretty well.
I know that sounds crazy, but the reason is simple: my team. These wonderful ladies have surrounded me with love and compassion today, sharing anti-nausea medicine, bringing me a yellow flower, pretzels, and Sprite, rubbing my back as I sat waiting by the toilet. It’s not fun to be curled up in a ball in pain for most of the day, and never fun to be sick without my mom around, but my teammates have taken the best care of me!
And that is possibly the biggest blessing of all.
