Time is money… and we bought two nights of
solitude.
To honor our second anniversary we found a quaint
little hotel on the beach, to just be a couple. The time was not wasted nor
where any of the comforts. The small things that would have normally been
expected at any given hotel where luxury for us. A real bed, real towels, Hot
water were all well appreciated after sleeping on our camping mats in our
sleeping bags for the last 2 months. Our towel from home is a quick dry, mini
that packs light and dries quick, which is perfect for a camping trip but less
enjoyable when used for an entire year. We were so excited to wrap up in the
fresh towels after taking a hot bath. We barely even noticed that the water was
yellow or the jets didn’t work in the tub, we were easy to please. It made us
realize how spoiled we are at home, and what we have to go home to. We knew
this would be a year of simplifing and living with less but it makes us realize
this doesn’t have to end after this year, it can continue.
We told ourselves over and over, ‘lower your
expectations,’ in order that we not get disappointed if the power was out or
the water wasn’t working. We were welcomed with ‘welcome’ drinks, and given
complimentary breakfast. Our first morning we sat down to our simple breakfast
of bread, fruit, juice and coffee, we were loving it, then they offered us our
hot meal. We were surprised again.
Something we’ve learned from this race is to be
flexible and to appreciate the simple joys. Now when the power goes out or the
water stops working we just keep on doing what we are doing without hardly
noticing, this has become our way of life.
We thank our Heavenly Father for all His favor in
our lives and for His provisions. He is so good to us. We praise Him for the
work He is doing on our lives.
