… is a beautiful gift from above. Sixteen months from the day we said, “I do!” we are packing up our house and filling a single bag each with our possessions for a year. We are crossing into an unknown territory and preparing to learn how to travel stress free as a couple. We can already see the joys and stresses of traveling as two not just one. For some reasons as simple as sharing a tent, toiletries, one sleeping bag stuff sac and yes, bags that zip together, that provide warmth and comfort. The convenience of one netbook, one mesh kit and the joys of sharing the load. But we can also remember the stresses of packing and being certain it all makes it into one of the two bags. Our hope is that we will become pros at organizing our few items and never have to doubt the other for leaving anything behind.
We also have come to value our alone time as a couple. The last few minutes in bed, debriefing on the day or a table set for two. The long drives in the car, or the books read together. This will be a challenge as we try to find any alone time we can get this next year. There may be months of ministry where we will be offered a room for our whole team to stay in, or a possibility to pitch our tents in a small perimeter, both of which will offer little to no privacy. World Race encourages married couples to try to find a date night where they can invest in some alone time to promote a healthy marriage. Our goal is to set as least one night a week aside as our date night. Time where we can debrief, connect, pray together and experience our marriage in a different culture.
We want to challenge you to pray for us as a couple, that we will be united, patient, forgiving, understanding and loving.
