Door to door

First off let me say that I think that this is the hardest type of ministry there is.

I have stood in front of 500 high schoolers in Thailand and told them about Jesus. I have worked/lived with 30 orphans in Guatemala, and talked with drug lords in Costa Rica, and converted (illegally) muslims in other parts of the world.  In saying all of that I still believe that it the hardest to walk up to someone’s front door and have a fifteen minute conversation with them that I hope will change their life forever.

But this is what we were asked to do this month.  We were asked to walk from house to house and ask people if we could share with them.  Some days it was hard for me to believe that this is the best way.  I am more relational.  I want people to see me and know the changes in me and want Jesus because I showed him to them, not because I told them one story on one random day in a ten minute conversation.  Then I started to see the harvest.  I am rejoicing with the angels to say that we have seen at least 20 people give their lives to the lord this month. This for me is how God redeemed our ministry this month.  I sometimes wonder how people would perceive me in the US if I was to just walk around from house to house on a Saturday sharing bible stories and asking people to come to Jesus.  Would I be as well received as I was in Uganda or would I be received at all.

One thing about the people of Uganda is that they are extremely hospitable.  They are servants at their best.  They have waited on us left and right and it has been so refreshing.  Even when we’re doing door to door the people are very kind and open to having us sit with them and talk.

I say all that to say that I have loved this month.  It is thrilling to see someone come to church on Sunday that you led to the lord at their front door only four days earlier.    Uganda is a beautiful place and the people are so nice here.

This month I also got a word from God.  I ended up turning it into a message that I preached at church.  I will post the message here soon.

Next month we will be in Mbeya City, Tanzania.  We will be traveling by bus and it will be our longest travel day yet.  We will be on a bus for 28 hours then switch buses in Tanzania for our last 12 hour leg before we reach our destination.  Pray safety and as much comfort as possible on this long 40 journey.

I love you all,

Cody
