The World Race is an adventure of worldly abandonment and steps of faith in the Lord’s calling. After all, you are asked to reduce your life to a mere 40lbs so that you can literally carry it on your back for 11 months. However, this journey began for Cody and me long before we even thought of packing our bags…
A few months ago, I felt the Lord putting it on my heart to sell everything in our house. The message I relayed to Cody was clear “we expect others to make sacrifices to donate to this trip and we are expecting God to come through for us… we need to be willing to give up everything for this call.” l watched a smile sweep across his face. I continued with “I think we should sell my engagement ring too…” The smile got bigger.
Six little words, “I’ve been thinking the same thing.”
Needless to say, Cody and I have dedicated the last month to selling everything in our house. We have sold everything from our trash can and turtle (Goliath) to, yes, my beautiful engagement ring. Some may view this as an irresponsible way to raise the needed funds for our mission… but this simply isn’t the case.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:24 we find Paul writing these words “He who calls is faithful, who also will do it.” We are just taking the Lord at His Word and trusting Him to be faithful. In Mark 10 we find Jesus’ encounter with the “rich young ruler.” The young man is devastated when Christ tells him in order to be saved he must sell all his possessions and give the money to the poor, We don’t believe the young ruler’s sin was his unwillingness to give to the poor, rather his hesitation to sacrifice everything for the Lord and His work. This step of faith is simply our desire to give our EVERYTHING to the Lord, placing us in the center of His will and power.

Sean and Becky are the wonderful couple who bought our ring.
As we think back to our heroes of the Bible, such as David, Noah, and Elijah’s challenge of the prophets of Baal, we see that in every situation these patriarchs put themselves in the center of God’s will. They were willing to surrender everything, even their dignity, to the Lord. They all placed themselves in situations where if the Lord did not come through they would be made out as fools… that is exactly what we are doing. We have complete trust that the Lord will finish what He has started.
Colossians 3:23 “And whatever you do, do it as unto the Lord and not unto man.”
Friends, the Lord has been faithful! Since the beginning of our endeavor to sell everything for the Lord, He has blessed us with another $6,000… This leaves us with just a little over $11,000 until the day we are fully-funded. Please consider being a part of this journey with us by supporting us prayerfully and financially. We know God is going to provide the rest of the needed funds, how awesome to have the opportunity to be a part of it!! You can do so through the “Empower Us” link to the left. May you be blessed!!
