Birthdays have evolved into all day, full-on celebrations on
The World Race. I remember all the way
back in January when we celebrated Candice and Chad
and Josh and Jenny’s Birthdays. I
thought we had gone all out by finding a bakery in Palenque,
Mexico and ordering enough
cake for everyone.
I turned 43 on Nov. 1st and my SALT friends
treated me right! They woke me up with
the Birthday song, gave me letters from most of Squad A and told me to pack my
bags for a trip. A few hours later we
were on a 5-hour cruise down river in a private speed-boat headed for a
beautiful location further into the mountains.
We passed slow boats full of tourist and local fisherman that use
trained Cormorants to catch their fish for them. (Back
in my Catfish Farming days we had US Fish & Wildlife Permits to kill Cormorants
because they were eating too many Catfish!)

That evening we spent the night in a stunning little town
that just blew me away with how touristy and developed it was. There were Westerners/Europeans everywhere
and the menus in the local restaurants reflected it! We shopped ‘till be dropped.

The next day we rented bikes to venture off the beaten
path. We climbed and hiked and generally
had one of the best 2 days of the whole year.
