Need something…someone to pray for today? Just over 100 days into this trip I received
one of those emails today that none of us Racers want to receive while we are
away. A friend died this morning. Richard Brown was the Children’s Minister at
my church in Gulfport, Mississippi. He and his wife and one of his daughters were
in a bad car accident last weekend. This
morning he passed away.
When Hurricane Katrina hit he became so much more than a
Children’s Minister. He stepped
seamlessly into the role he was so wired for- just simply a Minister of the
Gospel of Jesus Christ. He worked
tirelessly to put our church and church family back together. He coordinated relief teams for months- a job
well outside the normal scope of “children’s ministry”! His primary responsibilities were for children yet he had a better rapport with our Senior Adults than I did even though I had served the church for over 12 years. A testament to his pastor’s heart. Everyone in church loved him. His twin children- Chip & Mandy- were in
my youth group. The oldest daughter,
Susie, was in England
serving the Lord- but made it home in time.
His wife Marcy was also injured in the accident but
recovering. Join me in prayer for them,
especially over the next few difficult days.
At our World Race training in Palenque,
Mexico Andrew Shearman
said this about death: “Death for a
Christian is falling asleep at a friends house and waking up at home.”
