Antigua is beautiful. It’s an old city- dating back to the 1500’s. I think it has been destroyed by the nearby Volcano at least once and probably more than that. There are cobblestone streets and buildings in every pastel shade of color. It feels all at once European, Caribbean, Latin American.
. . . .
You are as prone to meet an American or European on the street as a Guatemalan. There seems to be a couple of quaint restaurants and hotels on every street. There are distinctly Latin restaurants with local foods and then there’s Burger King and McDonalds and a chicken place that’s both wonderful and has free wireless internet!

You see newer model cars, but you also see more “new” cars that are 1990’s vintage. I’m sure the car manufacturers sell all their old tooling to one or more of these Latin American countries where what appears to be 1992 Nissan Sentra’s are newly manufactured. There are also original VW Bugs that are only a few years old. There are smaller motorcycles everywhere. We saw a horse drawn carriage full of tourist today.

You can’t walk down a sidewalk without bumping into a Christian Missionary.
That’s not a bad thing.
There were fireworks tonight for at least the 2nd time since last Sunday night. I think the Catholic Churches will begin parades and festivals for Lent and Easter anytime now. On the streets you see honeymooners and missionaries and school girls in uniforms; hippies, businessmen and language students.
This would be a good place to revisit someday.
