What we are doing
We are prayer walking daily.
I doubt if any great movement of God was achieved without a firm
foundation of prayer. Plus it’s the only language I speak fluently enough right
now to be effective in any way! I have
been praying that the hearts of those who haven’t yet heard the Good News will
be fertile soil for the Gospel. I am
praying that God’s name and renown would be made known here.
The Christians that are here are very hospitable. This is generally a poor area but a brother
in Christ has practically moved out of his very comfortable home and allowed us
to live here. Ladies from the church
have kept us up to our ears in homemade corn Tortillas.
Our team (Hupomone) and Yeti are sharing the home and the
ministry opportunities. We are leading
children’s services and an adult service daily.
The Children’s Service is mass chaos but the kids are learning our names
and picking their favorites. If we are
on the streets during their recesses from school then they are attached to one
of us. We have also visited townspeople
door to door. We have prayed for many of
them. Talia has been thrust into the
role of our primary translator. Annie,
Eric, Brienna, BriEllyn and Ryan are close behind. I feel least equipped in the language department. I’m slowly picking up words and phrases but I
still don’t feel very confident putting sentences together.
I am having a blast though.
This is as good as or better than my best days in college with my
awesome roommates. This is better and more
real than any episode of The Real World.
I like the way my team is bonding.
Hupomone has a bit of an identity issue.
Our team was changed so much that we thought about calling ourselves The
Leftovers. I love them. It’s early yet but we seem to be very
compatible. We all seem to be pretty
sensitive in allowing each other to have some space, yet our times together
have been a lot of fun.
Annie is not only keeping up with our team finances but she
has the best Spanish ability on our team.
We would be lost without her (and especially if we weren’t working with
Talia and the Yeti team). Brienna may be
the most outgoing of the bunch and she has such a heart for kids. There is
rarely a time when there aren’t a half dozen kids hanging from her. Ryan is probably the most studious of us in
terms of learning the language. He’s
trying very hard and he isn’t afraid to just step up. I see some preaching in his future. Joy has been our main meal planner. She is also teaching the pre-teen girls how
to be girlie. Future American visitors
are in for a shock!
