Who am I?
Am I a man or is that a lie?
Do we have a life to live,
How do we measure the make of a man?
Is it merely a matter of having a plan?
Is a man a man because of how much he drinks,
Or by the college he goes to and how much he thinks?
Is it the amount of money he is able to make,
Or living in a big house down by the lake?
Does it matter if he wins or loses a fight?
Or the muscles he has and the stature of his height?
Is a man a man if he owns expensive cars,
Or the fact that he smokes Cuban cigars?
Is a man really defined by this?
Yes a real man’s identity comes from the cross.
He follows the Lord no matter the cost.
He knows he’s a sinner down to the core.
But he refuses to let shame defeat him anymore.
He walks confidently knowing he’s covered by God’s grace.
After all he’s made in the image of God’s face.
A real man is full of passion and zeal.
He’s not afraid to fold his hands and kneel.
Or feel, or cry, or pray
Does shedding tears really take his masculinity away?
Can I write this poem for the whole world to see,
Without being labeled as a too sensititive me?
I for one refuse to live in a box,
That says I should look and act like the typical jocks.
No I will not conform to the worlds ideals.
To do so would be my Achilles heel.
Instead I will walk in the fear of the Lord.
I will boldly write poetry like this when I’m bored.
Because a true man’s colors come from his heart.
A real man walks in monogamy,
Not monopoly.
Not acting like women are his property.
A real man is faithful and true.
A real man will love you, for you.
A real man makes sure his family is fed,
And deeply loves the woman in his bed.
A real man isn’t thrown astray,
Because his wife has a bigger pay day.
No a real man doesn’t walk with pride.
When problems arise he doesn’t hide.
He’s the spiritual leader of his house.
He’s bold like a lion, not a cowardice mouse.
His voice though humble is full of power.
When the enemy hears it he turns and cowers.
He seeks to help the poor and oppressed.
He fights for justice and his best.
He know that only God saves, no other can.
This I tell you, is a real man.
