I went to my first feeding a few days ago and God rocked my world. We were going to a school to feed whatever kids were there. We were told there would be around 150 kids.
So we got the food around. The food was some kind of soupy rice and vegetable mix. It’s filled with all kinds of nutrients to help the kids grow up healthy. We were told that this would be the only meal some of these kids would get all day.
When we arrived we found that the information we had received was a little off. Instead of 150 kids to feed we had 450. We hadn’t brought near enough food. Our contact that we had with us told us to ration the food appropriately. After considering our options we decided that there was no way we were going to short change these kids on their only meal of the day.
So we prayed together and asked God to multiply it. I then said a blessing over the food. This is by the way, one of the areas God is stretching me in. I don’t generally like to pray in front of lots of people, and yet there I was praying with a group of almost 500.
So the kids started coming and we kept praying out loud that God would provide enough food for all his children. We prayed that God would multiply the food like Jesus did with a few loaves of bread and some fish. We filled up every kid’s bowl not knowing what would happen. Wave after wave of kids came.
Finally I saw the end of the line. The last child came up and we filled his cup in complete amazement! God had come through and provided enough food for every kid and we had some left over to hand out as seconds!
A verse that the Lord really put on my heart through this is Matthew 6:25-34. One of the things God says in those verses is “look at the birds of the air. They neither sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?”
We have such an amazing God. He loves us and wants to provide for our every need. It’s time to stop asking how and put our trust in the Lord.
God Bless
