We decided to display our love and thankfulness for our ministry hosts this month through the signing of
“In Christ Alone.” I hope you enjoy!
Unheard (adj.)- not given a hearing or audience; not perceived by the ear
Imagine crying out in pain. Or laughing with abundant joy. Or questioning the unthinkable. Or delivering a secret message. Except no sound leaves your mouth. You can merely speak through your eyes or your erratic body movements. You are deaf and ignored.
Our ministry host this month, Heather Nelson, has such a passion for the deaf. She has left me with a burning desire to give people a voice. A voice that is spoken through the most eloquent nature; using hands as a constant source of communication. Sign language is somewhat accessible in the U.S. That is not the case in the majority of the world. In fact, deafness is not only frowned upon in various groups of people, it is deemed a curse. Many deaf children are abandoned and left to die. Or tied to a tree for torture. Or killed for their “disability.”
I had never thought of deafness in the regard of people having NO LANGUAGE. This baffles me. How could I not think of it that way? Why is sign language not a required class in high school and college? Imagine if the deaf were heard and rejoiced in their God-given ability.
On this Thanksgiving, be joyful. Hug anyone and everyone. And be sure to eat a bountiful amount of pumpkin pie for me!
