Let me introduce to you the one, the only…Team BFF’s:
Ray or Ramon as our Central American friends like to call him: He is our confidant, big brother, hulk hogan, jokester, spirit-filled team leader.
-There’s no mistaking his Michigan roots with his stellar accent and state outline tattoo. Ray is a gentle giant. He looks a bit like Thor but don’t let that deceive you; he wouldn’t hurt a fly. He comes to life when you catch him playing guitar. His talent and dedication are something to behold. Vulnerability comes natural to him which encourages the rest of his teammates to open up, even when we’re apprehensive. I am thankful for his leadership and am excited to see how he’ll grow through out the next 10 months.
Jess or Jessie or Jessica: She is our tender hearted, desert-loving, well spoken, free spirited, selfless warrior.
-Jess has a great presence about her; one that is cultured. She is well traveled and has the ability to love others through language barriers. She has a passion for learning and taking the time to be active everyday. Whether it’s a crazy dance move or just the mere look on her face- she always makes me laugh. I am excited to exchange all of our crazy stories and become sisters in Christ.
Christina: She is our compassionate, determined, courteous, “awe” saying, fashionista.
-You can almost always find Christina with a smile on her face. She loves spending time with children and uses her nurturing qualities to fill kids hearts with hope. She poses great questions and contemplations for her teammates. When I think about someone I’d like to emulate, her face comes to mind; not only because of her strength but because of her love for Jesus.
Seth or Sef or Setherina: He is our discerning, sarcastic, Gandalf, mighty mouse, little brother.
-Sitting next to Seth at training camp one day we joked that if we were put on the same team we would most likely wander and get lost. Well, that has yet to happen and I hope it doesn’t, considering he is our logistics leader. I could laugh with Seth for what seems like an eternity. Not only is he hilarious but when he speaks with discernment he has the ability to express his thoughts euphoniously.
Kate: She is our soft spoken, sweet-natured, outdoorsy, workout machine, philanthropist.
-Kate hails from the backwoods of Virginia and is a woman of many trades. She can inspire you with her quick biblical references all while lifting heavy boxes. It’s rare to find someone with such a genuine innocence yet an ability to relate to and I find it in Kate. Her external beauty is not what makes her gorgeous; it’s in her empathy toward others and her confidence in The Lord.
Daphnee: She is our talented, crochet-genius, eager to learn, workout master, dancing queen.
-When I think about Daphnee, a brave trooper comes to mind. She has overcome many obstacles in her life and seems to take those as a means to better herself. She is humble and fully relies on God in every aspect of her life. Her beautiful Haitian accent always captivates me. Her passion for learning is teaching us all about the vastness of God’s Kingdom and it’s infinite possibilities.
