Hola from Guatemala! My squad and I arrived here 10 days ago and God has already been working mightily in and through us in ways that we never imagined.
All 41 of us are living together at the moment- that means a lot of fun, a lot of noise, and a lot of dirty dishes. We’ve all been fasting from wifi and social media, which I’ve enjoyed a lot as it gives us a chance to focus on getting to know each other better and on the things that are actually going on around us. We’ve been immensely blessed by our host Luis and our location here in the small town of San Pedro. We live in a house in a very safe neighbourhood, complete with a kitchen, patio, front lawn, and a volcano in our backyard.
(My team: Mallory, Nicole, Mikkala, and Leigh Anne)
Every day my team and I take the chicken bus into Antigua where we try to sell tickets for a comic show that Luis is hosting as a fundraiser. God has been taking me completely out of my comfort zone in this ministry, as it is very awkward to walk up to random strangers and try to sell them tickets. However, God is good and He has allowed us to meet so many genuinely nice people, given us opportunities to pray for and encourage strangers, and even allowed me to meet a Japanese woman (Yes, we talked in Japanese and it was awesome). God has blessed me with a team of girls who are so bold and friendly to everyone they meet, and He is using them to encourage and motivate me to step out in boldness as well.
During this past week God has been showing me a lot about myself and what He has in store for me. One passage in particular that I want to share is Isaiah 43:18-19.
“ Do not remember the former things, nor consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing.”
God is bringing me into a new season as I start my World Race journey. I’m so excited to see all that He has for me and how He will use me to impact this community.
Next week my team and I will be moving to Guatemala City to start our ministry that we will be doing for the next 2 1/2 months. Please continue praying that God alone be glorified through our time and work here.
God is good! Stay tuned for updates.
In Christ,
Cindy
