Tuesday was a great day…our first adventure day of the month! 21 racers, our Philippino friend, and ministry contact loaded into vans early in the morning and journeyed to Cagayan de Oro for a day on the river. Fourteen rapids and several hours later, we had seen our fellow teammates launched out of boats, purposely capsize their boats, attempt to flip, climb a bamboo stick to jump off a cliff, floating down the river and trying not to drown…and so much more. It was an absolute blast and perhaps the perfect day to enjoy a warm n’ sunshiny day on the Cagayan de Oro River.
(my teammate Shawndell and I getting pumped to hop in our TEAM CAPSIZE boat.)
(TEAM CAPSIZE and our river guides…we had a BLAST!)
These were our sweet mode of transportation for the day…I’m thinking we should take this brilliant idea back to the states. Anyone else agree? The trucks themselves have great air flown and a sweet sound system! Not to mention, they’re lime green and other bright n’ fun colors! Plus you can pile large items on top. What more could you want?
Several of the P-squad women ready for an adventure on the river.
Tara and I post conquering the rapids. The view from the river and our vehicle was absolutely stunning.
The Philippines are a beautiful land – and one can definitely see God’s handy work everywhere you look!
FUN/ Important things I learned on the river today:
1) don’t swallow too much river water…especially when it’s brown.
2) floating is a lot easier when you stick your legs out and spread them just a little.
3) Philippino river guides are crazy…and super fun!
4) Floating through rapids may be a little crazy…but it’s such a rush!
5) Team cheers or chants are always done best when everyone hollers at top volume!
6) Life is full of laughter…and moments to laugh at. Embrace them!
7) Never try to fight your way through rapids, lay back and relax, easy strokes…just trust.
It’s sort’ve like our relationship with the Lord…when we kick and scream, and scramble and we’re going through the deep, we take in a heck of a lot more water than we need to. He knows the best way…He’s our guide.
