It’s 7:30am, all the Starfish are awake – and by this time nearly half of them are bathed and dressed for the day. Finding it necessary to entertain themselves while Shawndell and I attended to the other babies, the PRINCESS, GRANNY, the PROFESSOR, and DRAMA KING began devising a plan.
When the noise level substantially decreased over the course of a few minutes, my attention peaked and I was drawn to leave the bathing room to peak at what sort of trouble the rascals had gotten themselves into this early in the morning. My findings were not what I expected and I found myself standing there chuckling and waiting to see who would do what, next.
Four sets of little feet peered at me beneath the covering of the floor to ceiling mahogany curtains shuffling back and forth in a small amount of space. One curtain hung loose and free, while the other had a giant, mysterious, oddly shaped blob. “Hum…what could it be?” I wondered to myself laughing. The muffled sound of giggling affirmed my discovery – the giant curtains had become their new favorite play toy.
I lingered for a few moments to see what the extent of their creativity was…and surprisingly, they amped their game up! The PRINCESS immediately set to work and began ordering people with her pointer finger extended, and hand on the hip where to go. The geniuses that they are somehow decided that if only one or two people hid in the curtain, and the others watched, that would be way more fun. The volume of their pure, radiant laughter filled the room now and they began creating alternative patterns of the game – sometimes having people look for others in the curtains, and other times spinning one another into the curtain like a caterpillar. Naturally, I found this curtain crawling experience rather entertaining!
Kids are so creative…I’m thankful God made them that way…that their imaginations are sharp, pure, and excited to explore!
