The kids at the orphanage got uniforms today + shoes as well.
They were SO excited.
It was a Christmas unlike any other.

It was HOT HOT HOT – and those of you who live in the Northeastern part of North America know that Christmas is often associated with the expression “baby it’s cold outside”. I’ve never spent a Christmas in my life without snow…

and here I was, smack in then middle of Mozambique, Africa – just a day
just an ordinary day, only today we were going to the BEACH!

The kids were once again absolutely excited! Two mini-buses arrived and we loaded in…30 kids in one, and 14 adults in another. Off to the Indian Ocean we went.

Once there we shared a picnic of spaghetti + chicken + pops. Several other families had set up camp on the beach and the fun began. Rushing down the sandy hill we headed into the Indian Ocean. The kids squealed with delight as salty water pasted our faces. Even the babies and toddlers came into the water. Fati and Clara were little adventurers craving the rush of being swept over by each and every wave.

(this is Peter our contact who is blind.)

The women who served our teams by cooking, cleaning, and laundering our clothes this month (just to name a few things) also went swimming. To see them laughing like children and splashing about in the water brought my heart an overwhelming amount of joy. This was totally worth it.

This indeed was a Christmas like no other, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.
It was free of time constraints and schedules, warm and delightful, situated by the ocean side with people whom I love, who love me in return…orphans, widows, family…KINGDOM.
