As I’ve tried to put into words my various experiences at training camp, one thing keeps coming back to my heart again, and again, and again. Lyrics from a Jonathan D. Helser song:
“
You are an endless ocean…a bottomless sea – There’s no end to the affection, You have for me…”
Why, in all His splendor, power, and purpose would God choose to invest, love, and pour into a life like mine?
Why does God so carefully protect and guide me?
Why does He so intimately offer to love me?
Why does He so intently purpose me?
His love is grand! He is an endless ocean – a bottomless sea. His love is deep – wide – high – and long.
There is NO END to the affection He has for ME. There is NO END to the affection He has for YOU!

This term grand is not one to be taken lightly, nor to be merely spoken. When I use the word grand I feel a prompting to rise to my feet, to extend my arm out and to almost naturally present something – I feel the need to show others what I am trying to express – something grand is meant to be seen, meant to be experienced, meant to be honored, and taken back by. Certain words that closely relate to this concept of grandness help paint a fuller picture of what my heart has been trying to grasp. Something “grand” is stately, majestic or dignified, it’s magnificent, noble, revered, in highest rank, complete or comprehensive, first-rate, splendid, distinction, of great importance, and chief.
It’s hard to put into words sometimes the expressions and melodies of the heart – of our wonders – our considerations – our praises – our curiosities and concerns – our apologies – and our dreams/desires…but the God of the universe knows this heart of mine – He made it. Every last fiber, vessel, valve, and such was fashioned by and knit together with His loving hands. When I think about the Lord – and all He does DAILY for me like painting the morning and evening skies, sending me people to fellowship with, whispering songs and promises over me throughout the day, giving me clear directions to follow, proclaiming songs of deliverance over my when I waken each morning, dancing over me, delighting in me – I can’t help but be absolutely blown away and speechless.
Psalm 36:5-6 in the Message translation summarizes it best,
“God’s love is meteoric, His loyalty astronomic,
His purposes titanic, His verdicts oceanic.
Yet in His grandness nothing gets lost.”
