Okay, so maybe that’s stretching the truth a little, but we tried.
Imagine this…It’s a beautiful warm morning in Swaziland. The field is full of cows and bulls lazily roaming about, zebras run by playing and chasing each other, the baby chicks are getting bolder and starting to wander away from their mom and closer to humans. An IPOD with speakers sits on the bale of hay blasting worship music as 6 of us gather around our fireless fire pit.
No, this wasn’t a hang out session, this was church. As two groups went to local churches, a group of us decided to worship God with more of an American style (or as American as we can get in the Swazi bush). And let me tell you, it was so nice not to have to be ‘on’ while at church.
See, at church we know we’ll have to perform a song or two in front of the congregation, possibly preach, although we haven’t had to at the church we’ve been attending, and definitely we’ll be stared at by pairs of tiny eyes peering over the pews in front of us. And don’t get me wrong, I love that. I love going to church with the community here. And I love the kids that hide behind the backs of the pews just to peer over to watch what we do during church – most of these kids are the kids from the care points that we work with.
But today we got to just be ourselves with God!
