I know my trip only began a week ago. But I’ve already learned a couple of things.
One: Our ministry will start on Monday. We will be staying in Swaziland and working with orphans. Some of the guys met a woman who takes care of 95 orphans basically by herself. She feeds them with one pot, sometimes, we she has food and firewood. One of the guys from Team A broke down in tears just telling us about their situation. I’m so excited to get this chance. When I was in South Africa a couple of years ago, I honestly didn’t like children. So when they said that we would be visiting abandoned children at the hospital I honestly didn’t want to be there. Until I met the most amazing child. You know how people say that you can see Jesus in others? On that day, I saw Jesus in this child. I still can see that little girl’s face and her smile. When I picked this child up, she peed all over my leg. The nurses explained that she was never held and when she gets excited she doesn’t know how to control her urine. (She was at least 5 years old.) So, I’m totally stoked about getting to work with kids again.
Two: I’ve learned that internet connection outside of the United States is very different. I’ve waited 30 minutes to get into my email here. So for anyone emailing me, if you email me and don’t hear back from me, I’m not ignoring you I promise. I just haven’t gone into my email that much yet. Which also explains why I haven’t posted any photos yet. I’m working on that.
And Finally Three: I’ve learned not to wash white tank tops in warm water with dirty black shirts! Okay so I know that at home not to wash blacks and whites together but I thought hand washing them together wouldn’t hurt…I was wrong! Ha!
Well, actually I’ve really learned a little more but I won’t bore you with details.
