but the trip hasn’t.
After a long day at the Atlanta airport, the team was ready to get our boarding passes and get on the plane. However, when we got to the ticket counter we were told that we weren’t allowed to leave! So to say this came as a surprise to everyone is an understatement! Apparently since we only had a one way ticket, the airlines weren’t able to make sure that we would ever leave Africa. If they had let us go on they could have been fined a lot of money and we could have been sent back to the US.
However instead of having to spend another 24 hours in the Atlanta airport for the next flight, AIM came and took us back to Gainesville! As of now, 13 of us will be trying to fly out again today. I’ll be one of them! The rest of the team will be flying out the following day. Then we’ll all meet up in Africa! The catch for the 13 of us? We may not have the paperwork we need again today to prove to the airlines that we’ll be leaving Africa. So we may be back again tonight. (Although I think we’ll be able to get out this time.)
Now all this may sound kind of depressing, but it wasn’t. It was an awesome time to bond as a team. Instead of us all getting on the plane and watching movies or napping, we played cards, had dinner, and talked. Plus I had time to figure out what was going on with my digital camera, well actually Brooke figured it out. So I’m now ready to start posting picutures!
