11 Rules of the Road So here are a few things I have learned about driving/ being a pedestrian during my time on the WR so far.
• Red Light doesn't always mean stop – to some it means yield… If they aren't in to much of a hurry.
• Honk you horn as you go around a curve, make a turn, saying hi, are mad about someone, and pedestrians, or just because you can. I'm convinced that we don't use the horn enough in America.
• Lines on the road are there to help make the road look nice – otherwise they serve no real function.
• fit as many people as you can in the back seat and trunk before adding people to the front (except in Honduras where you can get a ticket if there is more than 2 or 3 people in the front…)
• being a Gringo means you get pulled over, even if your riding on a bus (better have ID with you!)
• crosswalks – what are those?
• waiting on the yellow line in the middle of the road to finish crossing the street (thankfully when doing this the cars abide by the traffic lines…so far)
• playing Frogger to cross the street ( see above points) despite the pedestrian bridge near by.
• bicycle lanes (when there are any) are for bicycles, walkers/runners and any other form of transportation that can fit in that lane. (El Salvador)
• seeing that according to law you must wear your seatbelt but then discover that the car your in is missing them…(El Salvador)
•Realizing that it's better for your health and stress level if you just stop looking out the front window and focus on something else.
