By the time I get a chance to post this I will have been in Tegucigalpa Honduras (the capital) for a week! I still don’t feel as though I am on the World Race. Perhaps because I think that I’m on a one or two week mission trip, so maybe in another week or two when I don’t go home it will hit.
I am in a place called Zion’s Gate. Tony is the guy who runs this place with the help of his wife Nidia, and a former World Racer Cassie. Tony’s ministry is helping kids who live on the streets to have a better life by sending them to school, feeding them, teaching them life skills, and giving them a safe place to live. Currently there are 9-11 boys that live at Zion’s Gate. They are currently in the process of building a dorm for girls to live in and they already have a few girls who are ready to live with them. They are also finishing a building for a family to live in.
As I said in my previous blog, I’m with my entire squad this month. There is not enough housing for all of us so we have all set up tents. Three teams are inside and the other three are outside around the property. My team set up in a circle outside near an old water house that we can climb on and watch the sunset. It’s nice because we can have our own team time away from the squad, and having our tents set up we can have our own alone time.
This week my team and I have been working on the dorm. Our job: move rocks from plies on from of the dorm down the hill and create a rock wall. Another one of our jobs was to level out the dirt that was in front of the dorm. As you can imagine it has been hard but refreshing to be able to do something for this ministry and help get the dorm ready for the girls. By the way, my team and I have discovered that dog is not man’s best friend – a bobcat is. W would have been finished with our work in no time if we had one. But we have had fun moving rocks; it’s been a great team bonding time. Other teams have been doing other jobs around the city. Next week we will be switching jobs so that we can try out different ministries. So I will have to update you all next week!
Until then pray that:
· We stay healthy. Some of us are starting to get colds or sinus infections.
· That we bond closer as a team. It’s hard to do when we are all together as a squad and we want to talk with friends on other teams that we won’t see often.
· And over all – that we draw closer to God as a squad, as a team, and as individuals.
So many other awesome things have happened and I wish I was able to tell you all but if I did the blog would be way to long. I may have to write some more blogs at a later time 😉
