Expectations is something that we all have, it’s something that people ask us about. For example, what do you think that you will be doing in a month, what is something that you hope to accomplish while on this trip, or what do you think that the culture or food will be like? It’s natural to have them or even not to realize that you do.
One thing that the staff has told us over and over at Training Camp is not to have expectations. Shortly after Training Camp O Squad was informed that we would not be going to India like we had thought. That was disappointing because India is one place that I’ve always wanted to go and I have heard about the different types of ministries there and was excited to jump in them. Expectation one: Shattered.
I decided not to be excited about a certain country incase that too disappears. I can’t really expect to work at a particular place (I hope) because we don’t know where we are going to be in each country or what we will be doing. I have even stopped reading other blogs so I would not gain other/new expectations.
Yet now that I am at Launch I have discovered that I still have expectations – I thought that I would be launching with team A.R.O.M.A. This was the team I was on at training camp. This was the team that I was getting close to. This was the team I was told I was going to launch with…until I got to launch. I was informed that team A.R.O.M.A. no longer will launch as a team because we are just too small, so we have been split up into the other teams on the squad. Expectation two: Shattered. It was sad to hear, but I know, and have to trust that God has a reason for this. I am still processing this but I know that it’s in God’s plan.
So now, let me introduce my new team: Z.E.R.O.H. which stands for Zealously Earnestly Relying On Him. My new team members are Jake, Jah-Jah, Karilyn, Savannah, Carrie, & Emily. I’m excited to get to know my new team and see what God has in store for us this year! And I hope that I will let go of most or all of any remaining expectations that I may still have.
*Side note: we will be flying to Honduras on Friday!
