I think about it time and time again and I can’t believe that I am fully funded for the World Race. It blows my mind to think about the generosity of family, friends, acquaintances, and even strangers that I have never met. My teammates are a constant reminder of generosity such as when Jake buys food for the disabled people on the streets and shares a meal with them or when Brook initiates helping someone in need. I am dearly humbled by the example of love and sacrifice that every single one of my teammates and many of those back at home have demonstrated.
I remember these verses from Scripture:
Pro 3:27-28 Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, Go and come back again, or, tomorrow I will give, when you have it beside you.
James 4:17 Therefore, to anyone knowing to do good, and not doing it, it is sin to him.
God has speaking to me about the widow and her daughter who needed a sewing machine. They lived off of less than $1/day and did not have the capital to start a business. My teammate Jake had suggested that it would be a good idea that if we had gotten a sewing machine that we can give it to Pastor Mguluka to oversee. The widow’s daughter can use it and pay off the cost of the sewing machine. Then, another sewing machine can be purchased for another family in need. There are several widows and HIV+ individuals that cannot find employment to support themselves. It’s easy to call others to give, but the goal is that we give together. Brook and I are giving money for the purchase of a sewing machine. If everything works out even after we leave, we would’ve started micro financing in this community, which is pretty cool! God is teaching me to practice generosity in the little ways. This is one area of my life that I still have a lot to grow in.
