My team is living at the medical clinic in Bungoma, Kenya. It’s a very small town, but it is one of the poorest towns in all of Kenya. My team is partnering with King Jesus Faith Ministries to serve the people in this area this month. King Jesus Faith Ministries started with about five people in the community praying for their neighbors in their own homes. It has grown to over 60 churches that is spread throughout Kenya. They recently started a medical clinic, which is one of the few available avenues to access medical care in Bungoma. My team will be giving presentations at several schools, preaching at multiple churches, visiting the sick at the hospital, doing manual labor, cleaning up the city streets, helping out at the youth ministry, and working with the street children which have been abandoned by their parents or sent by their parents to beg.

What’s unique about Kenya so far:
-We sleep under mosquito nets
-We use the toilet that’s a hole in the ground
-Everyone calls us Mezoongu “white person” – even me though I’m Chinese!
-Women hold hands with women and men hold hands with men as a sign of friendship
-People carry food and equipment on top of their heads
-Cooking is done over charcoal and fire
-There is no running water, we need to purchase gallons of water for cooking, showering. Washing clothes..etc
-The women all wear dresses and the men all wear suits or collared shirts
-There are a ton of cockroaches that come out at night
-AIDS/HIV is prevalent and so is malaria

P.S. Please don’t expect consistent blogging this month as I don’t know how often we are able to go visit the internet cafe. I will make sure to post a blog update when I do have accesss!
